This year I don't plan to beat around the bush with my opinions. So let me kick start the posts for 2013.
For me to properly tell the story, I have to go back a year or so to when I decided to purchase a laptop on hired purchase from one of the major appliance stores in Barbados.
No sooner than the words left my mouth I was getting advice in all directions.
I was advised it would be better not to pay hired purchase due to the interest that would accumulate. I was advised if I did decide on hired purchase which store I should go to. I was advised on the best brands, the best this and that and the next and the third.
No one so "helpfully" sharing advice took into consideration - my income - my budget - which store I had a hire purchase account with or any other number of factors in the equation that I had to base my decision on.
Fast track to 2013. The laptop charger quit working one fine day and there is some drama with one of the hinges. (It's called a hinge, I assume) Now Unicomber ltd is giving me all kinds of hell with a warranty that covers nothing relevant to me.
Of course all the people that warned me against hired purchase, Courts Barbados Limited and my choice of brand (Lennova) are all having a celebratory I Told You So Party.
The long and short of the story is not that people are happy at other people's misery, even though it should be. The long and short of the story is, that if I had it to do all over again, I probably would have done the same thing given what my situation had been.
People are always quick to tell you what to do with your money, at your job, in your relationships and in life in general. But they don't know the circumstances in which you may find yourself that make you decide the choices you make.
So I conclude by saying - I didn't ask you for your opinions then and I damn sure don't need them now. People need to learn to give advice when ASKED for it.
And if you ASK me for MY advice? Here it is...
If no one asked you - STFU. and I am certain you all know what those initials stand for.
