Face up to it.
So, I saw this photo (somewhere) and it cause a lot of to do (as Bajans say).
The issue of makeup has always been quite a touchy one and this photo and the opinion of the young man here has caused me some discomfort.
FIRST OFF - why do women wear makeup? Two main reasons. To hide flaws and "accentuate" beauty.
Thanks to music videos and magazines men have expectations of the perfect woman with flawless skin. If a woman decides there are "flaws" she wishes to conceal or "hide" does the woman have low self esteem?
Is the issue of makeup and low self esteem a DIRECT result of the opinion of men?
Every woman wants to be attractive to the male sex. Is it wrong that she disguises the things she believes men will find unattractive?
This society can be a cruel one. People are scorned and ridiculed for skin problems and facial features or "flaws" they have no control over. Yet, to say beauty is in the eye of the beholder is no joke. Some people may have a beautiful flawless face and crooked teeth. Does that make them undesirable?
WHAT REALLY gets me is that many men who seek this perfect flawless woman have body "issues" as well. If the man commenting on this photo seeks to take a woman swimming to strip her of makeup to know if her face matches his "standard" then should we women ask men to remove their shoes so we can see if their toes match our standard?
Many men seeking the flawless woman and hurling insults at the flawed one have nothing to offer in terms of finance or character. If you want a woman who is constantly beautiful - can you help her maintain the beauty YOU want to show off to your friends? And when you find the perfect pretty woman are you treating her like a beautiful black queen? Or are you still running from club to club looking for the next pretty woman to sleep with?
Ladies. Love yourselves. We all cannot look like air brushed, photo shopped magazine models. If you have insecurities, work on them. if you have acne or scars that can be altered and you can afford to alter them for your peace of mind, do so. But most of all work on your inner beauty. Work on your ATTITUDES. Learn to be kind, gentle, friendly, generous as a REAL woman should be.
There are men who see past outward blemishes, LOVE these men, treat them like KINGS because they are few of them left out there.
