Saturday's Scene

One of the most well - known  Bridegetown spots could possibly be Queen's Park.

Benches in Queen's Park.
Known through the years especially at Christmas time for it's Christmas morning events that draw people from every parish on the island to show off their Christmas church attire, mingle and listen to the strains of the police band.
Over time, there have been many activities here, from shows and concerts to fairs, and recently the old Steel Shed has had an upgrade and there is even a Solar House there as well as part of an energy saving project.

The children's play park at Queen's Park is now in a sad state.

I have always found a walk through Queen's Park a relaxing one and as happy as I am to see freshly cut grass and  pleasantly clean surroundings, I am a little sad that the park is no longer as popular as it used to be, and no longer thrives as it has the potential to. There are sections of the park in need of a desperate upgrade.
The children's playground is one of these areas. The park equipment was so old and damaged the park cannot be used. There has been additional play equipment placed in another section of the park, but now vagrants sleep in this old play area that is still left wide open for children to wander into.

No homeless people in the Playground should have been one of the rules too.

The Queen's Park Gallery has also seen better days. I loved to come here to look at paintings from local artist and when there were art festivals, the place was lively and fun. Now the building is falling to pieces and another sleeping spot for men living on the streets.
Thankfully, none of these men bother anyone. They make camp at night and in the morning they usually go off on their way, leaving their belongings packed up for evening return.

The side of the gallery is now a storage facility for the homeless

But, in spite of the few unsightly aspects, the park is still a wonderful place to be. Today I was there with my friend and her daughter and it was wonderful to see signs like the one on the left, that gave a brief history of the trees and plants in the park.
A little bit of fun and a little bit of education.

QUEEN'S PARK is still a beautiful part of our heritage and culture.
That has been Saturday's scene.

Bisous!!xoxo
